Discover La Aldea de San Nicolás
Located in the west of Gran Canaria, the experience of approaching La Aldea de San Nicolás through one of its three entrances invites you to immerse yourself in a magical space: from the north you fly over spectacular cliffs and beautiful natural balconies, from the summit you enjoy a vertiginous descent flanked by narrow gorges and from the south you discover the secrets of its untamed nature. So it is not an ideal starting point for touring the island, but it is an ideal place to rest, contemplate and get to know our culture.
The village municipality is a haven of tranquillity where you can discover dreamlike landscapes along its paths and in its nooks and crannies. The night opens its doors to a unique sky and the day invites you to discover the customs and traditions of a welcoming and friendly people.
La Aldea de San Nicolás is located in the west of the island of Gran Canaria and is the third largest municipality, with 139 square kilometres. It stretches from the coast to the interior and its maximum altitude, located on the Montaña de Los Hornos (Inagua), is 1,440 metres above sea level.
Undoubtedly, the most valuable treasure of La Aldea de San Nicolás is the natural landscape that surrounds it and the rich biodiversity that is part of it, among which all the locals and visitors find themselves. The history of all the people who have lived here, presumably for more than 1500 years, and who have created a spectacular culture, inevitably revolves around this heritage.
